I thought I’d talk about a few games coming out in these next few months which I’m looking forward to. We’re in a bit of a lull at the moment, so it’s good to look forward and see what’s coming out soon.
Here’s my five games to watch out for in the next 6 months(ish)
- Moon Chronicles. Release Date: ‘Spring 2014’
I love Renegade Kid so so much. Mutant Mudds is a fantastic game, and one of the titles I have sunk the most time into on my beloved 3DS. The game was originally a hit on DS (as ‘Moon’) and is now being re-released under the new moniker. Promising to play at a sweet 60fps (even in 3D Mode!) the game looks dope, and I have every faith that Renegade Kid can take full advantage of the hardware. Plus, it has an interesting new sales model which we haven’t seen before: promising an episodic style of release with different episodes and bonuses being released over time. Sounds good to me! Check below for a comparison between the DS and 3DS versions (3DS above DS below)
- Shovel Knight. Release Date: March 31st 2014
Shovel Knight is a 2d platformer, which originally stemmed from a Kickstarter by “Yacht Club games”. What looks really interesting about this game is the concept of the “ShovelBlade” – a sword which lets you dig into the ground to discover new tactics, treasure, and areas. The main reason I’m attracted to this game is the art style: LOOK HOW FLIPPING GORGEOUS IT IS
- Grinsia. Release Date: Autumn 2013 (delayed)
Grinsia looks super cool. It’s a remake / expansion of an Ios game, and looks to be a really cool throwback to the SNES style RPG. Grinsia follows the story of three treasure hunters from the same family who go out in search of untold treasures – but naturally, as the game goes on, they find themselves in the midst of a disaster that threatens the world. The plot may sound a bit samey but the gameplay looks fantastic, and it could well be the deep, engaging RPG we haven’t had on 3DS since Fire Emblem. Check out the trailer here:
- Inazuma Eleven 3: Team Ogre Attacks. Release Date: February 14th 2014
Team Ogre Attacks is being developed by Level 5: the geniuses behind Professor Layton. It’s a football RPG, with this really innovative looking football mechanic. It’s almost Pokemon like: you walk around with a team of 11 players, meeting other random teams and squaring off against eachother on the pitch. There’s also a really heavy stats element: finding new players, training up your old ones, and gaining access to all sorts of special moves. You can read more about how the game plays here. There’s also a full transfer market available online, and local play for you and up to three players. It’s been a very long time since I played a football RPG (read: never) so this sounds really fun.
- Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Release Date: March 28th 2014
I really don’t need to say much about this game. Both series are fantastic, and the combining of them together is such a dream for fans. I can’t really sum up why I’m excited but I think the best way is to point you to this trailer:
So that’s my top 5 3DS games to look forward to in the next six(ish) months. No doubt more will be announced that look fantastic but in the mean time these are the five I’m most excited about.
But what games are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comments bit below or by getting in touch.
